In the recent turn of events, Bloomberg reported that Chinese officials are considering Elon Musk as the potential buyer of the Tiktok amidst the US ban concern. According to Bloomberg, the social media app will be banned on Jan 19 if ByteDance doesn’t sell its stake in TikTok to the American company.
The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, who acquired Twitter in 2022 and rebranded it as X, was reportedly included in a scenario discussed by Chinese officials. In this scenario, X would assume control of TikTok’s U.S. operations and manage the businesses collaboratively. However, according to Bloomberg, it is unclear whether Musk, TikTok, or ByteDance have engaged in any discussions about the terms of such a potential agreement.
However, Tiktok refuted all these claims, and a company representative stated, “We can’t be expected to comment on pure fiction.” Moreover, Musk has also not made any comments on the matter.
Which U.S. Company Could End Up Buying Tiktok?
Several companies have expressed interest or have been rumored to consider acquiring TikTok. Project Liberty, the organization spearheading The People’s Bid for TikTok, has formed a consortium that includes O’Leary and Guggenheim Securities.
Amazon has also emerged as a potential buyer, with experts highlighting the growing connection between TikTok and Amazon, including this year’s partnership that enables users to browse and purchase Amazon products directly on TikTok.
