On Wednesday, 18 June 2025, the US Federal Reserve’s Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) announced that it will keep the benchmark interest rates unchanged. The decision was based on ongoing, though reduced, economic uncertainty in the United States.
This marks the fourth consecutive time the Fed has held rates steady since January 2025. The US central bank has continued this approach since President Donald Trump returned to the White House for his second term.
According to the Fed’s quarterly “dot plot” projections, officials expect to cut interest rates by 50 basis points (0.5%) before the end of 2025. The dot plot shows each official’s expectations for future rate changes.
Currently, the benchmark interest rate remains in the range of 4.25% to 4.5%, as confirmed by the FOMC meeting on 18 June 2025. The Fed said its decision reflects concerns about the country’s economic outlook and inflation risks, signaling a cautious or “hawkish” policy stance in the months ahead.
