Senate Approves Kash Patel as the New Director of FBI

On Thursday, the US Senate confirmed Kash Patel, an Indian-origin man, as the director of the FBI. The nominee received 51 votes in favor, while 49 people were against the confirmation. After the confirmation, Kash took to X and said that his mission as the director of the FBI is clear, i.e., to “let good cops be cops—and rebuild trust in the FBI.” Moreover, Kash also gave a warning to people who are plotting the downfall of the USA as he said in the same post, “And to those who seek to harm Americans—consider this your warning. We will hunt you down in every corner of this planet.”

However, not all Republicans agreed with the appointment of Kash Patel as the ninth FBI director. Notably, Republicans Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski joined the panel of 47 Democrats against the appointment of Kash Patel.

Both the Republicans voiced their concerns about Kash being the FBI director. Susan Collins said, “While I strongly support efforts to ensure all federal employees perform their responsibilities ethically and in accordance with the law, Mr. Patel’s recent political profile undermines his ability to serve in the apolitical role of Director of the FBI.”

On the same note, another Republican, Lisa Murkowski, also voiced her concerns on a X post she posted earlier. She said, “I will oppose Kash Patel’s confirmation to serve as Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. My reservations with Mr. Patel stem from his own prior political activities and how they may influence his leadership. The FBI must be trusted as the federal agency that roots out crime and corruption, not focused on settling political scores.
