Cerebras Systems, a leading AI chipmaker backed by UAE-based tech giant G42, has partnered strategically with France’s Mistral, enabling the European AI firm to achieve a record-breaking processing speed.
Mistral, known for its open-source AI technology, is positioning itself as a formidable competitor to Meta Platforms and China’s DeepSeek, which have recently gained attention for their advanced AI models. All three companies are challenging the dominance of OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT.
On Thursday, Mistral launched its new AI-powered assistant, Le Chat, which can generate responses at an unprecedented rate of 1,000 words per second. Cerebras, which is providing the computing power for this breakthrough, claims that Le Chat now holds the world’s fastest AI assistant title, surpassing both OpenAI and DeepSeek.
Silicon Valley-based Cerebras, awaiting regulatory approval for its planned IPO due to U.S. scrutiny of G42’s involvement, is among the few competitors challenging Nvidia in the AI chip market. While the company is primarily known for AI model training, its partnership with Mistral focuses on AI inference—the process of delivering AI-generated responses to users.

As competition intensifies in the AI landscape, speed has become a crucial factor in model performance, according to Cerebras CEO Andrew Feldman.
“Users demand better answers, and achieving that requires greater computational power during inference,” Feldman told Reuters. “This marks our first major success with a tier-one AI model developer, and we’re extremely proud of this achievement.”
The collaboration underscores the growing race among AI companies to enhance efficiency and responsiveness in a rapidly evolving industry.
