Alberta Bans US Alcohol As a Reaction to Trump’s Tariffs

The head of Canada’s Alberta province, Premier Danielle Smith, has announced that the province will limit or completely ban liquor from the United States of America, making it the fifth province in Canada to do so. She said that this is in retaliation against the 25% tariffs imposed by President Trump. Moreover, she called the trade tariffs a “betrayal” and an “economic attack”. Smith said the “economic attack on our country, combined with Mr. Trump’s continued talk of using economic force to facilitate the annexation of our country, has broken trust between our two nations in a profound way. It is a betrayal of a deep and abiding friendship.

Moreover, Smith has directed her government not to allow any US alcohol to enter the province and run a marketing campaign to help Canadians identify locally made products easily. It is worth noting that Alberta isn’t the only province to ban or limit US Alcohol. Previously, provinces like Quebec, Ontario, British Columbia and Manitoba had also banned US alcohol.
